Tamarind and Szechuan Peppercorn Baked Wings
Summer is upon us, which means it’s time for outdoor gatherings, time with friends and loved ones, and most importantly FOOD. I can already feel the warmth of the sun and the smell of charcoal burning.
One of the best foods of summer is chicken wings (in my humble opinion). This recipe is adapted for folks like me who sadly do not have a charcoal grill but still want the juicy, crunchy flavor of fresh wings. How is it done- by oven baking! Don’t doubt it before you try it, because the method in which these wings are cooked leave the outside crispy and the inside moist, without the use of frying oil.

Café Maison Ronde/ Roundhouse Café
I stood face to face with what might be the most beautiful art I’ve ever seen. It was birch bark that was folded and bitten into patterns. I was in awe because not only was it mesmerizing, but it was the most eco-conscious art I had ever seen. Birchbark biting is an Indigenous art form used in storytelling with spiritual significance.
As I stood in the museum, I could not help but think about how the colonial empire has destroyed and endangered these practices across many cultures. Our job is to protect our friends and help keep them, their art, and their culture alive.
While in Montreal, my partner and I visited a place called Roundhouse Café. Montreal’s only Indigenous café designed to empower people and provide opportunities for Indigenous folks who are homeless or at risk.

It seems like lately, everything has been on my mind- Covid, Palestine, and the future of our world. This week's blog post is Chocolate Chip Banana Bread for 50 People. You might ask, Why was Marie making chocolate chip banana bread for 50 people? Well, because last year, I volunteered to be a kitchen staff member at a meditation retreat- an experience I recommend to anyone who is interested in solidarity. I had the honor of sustaining 50 people with nutritious food as they charted their own path towards enlightenment.
As I have been writing this food blog, I have been thinking about the best way that I can contribute positively to this world with the skills that I have. Simultaneously, I am thinking about the skills I want to develop. I do not have complete answers at this time, but what I do know is that I believe we all deserve sustenance, safety, and peace. I want to help teach people ways to sustain themselves and others. And I want to encourage people to build communities of care.
