It is with heavy hearts that we reflect on the passing of Andre Chin, the co-visionary behind Artisan Boulanger Pâtissier along with his wife, Amanda Eap.  As a child, Andre fled war-torn Cambodia and settled in Paris where he studied cooking and baking.  During the 1980s, he worked in a hotel honing his craft.  Legend has it that he met his wife, Amanda during a visit to Philadelphia.  They fell in love, married in Paris in 1990, and later settled in South Philadelphia to pursue their culinary dream and raise their family.

Although the location has changed, Artisan Boulanger Pâtissier has been in business since 2002.  In 2013, Andre Chin and Amanda Eap were semi-finalists for a James Beard Award in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category.  Additionally, they were semi-finalists for the Outstanding Baker category in 2015 and 2016. For decades, they’ve been serving up traditional French delicacies alongside savory bánh mì sandwiches and sweet Vietnamese coffee.  Andre passed in July 2022 after a 7-year battle with prostate cancer.  His passion for baking and commitment to perfection leave an indelible mark on the Philadelphia culinary scene, making Artisan Boulanger Pâtissier a must-visit destination for pastry enthusiasts.
